9C Conversion Kit

The 9C is a direct drive brushless hub motor that weighs 20% less than a Crystalyte hub motor. This motor produces more torque and speed given the same voltage as a Crystalyte Series 400 motor. The 9C has a narrower case and a slightly greater diameter over that of a Crystalyte motor.
This hub motor is being sold as a Pedal First system but unlike Crystalyte the 9C starts almost as soon as you push down on the pedal the first time.
The advantage of a Pedal First system is you don’t waste battery energy which shortens your range. You have no hall effect sensors/connectors to fail and so more time riding and less time waiting for a new Instant Start Controller to arrive.
Currently, the motor kit is available only as a front hub with two winding types, a fast 2806 version for a 20" wheel, and a slightly slower 2807 model for 26" and 700c wheels. At 36V, both setups will have no problem maintaining the legal limit of 32 kph while going up moderate hills, and can go faster than this on the flats.
This 9C motor cannot be used in a 16 inch front wheel because the motor case diameter is too great.
Some Dealers will “suggest” a torque arm be added for this 9C hub motor. I however “insist” that a torque arm is used. I have ridden with this hub motor and the torque is quite noticeable which can cause the axle to try and turn in the dropout which can lead to a nasty face plant.
The 9C motor kit “includes” a Torque Arm.
The Basic Motor Kit including Torque Arm but not the Battery and Charger is $458.00 USD
The Basic Motor Kit includes:
- A CycleAnalyst
- Right or Left Hand Throttle of your choice: Thumb, half grip or MC full grip style
- Motor already laced into the Rim
- Crystalyte 20A X 36V—48V Sensorless Controller
- Torque Arm
